The Geomatics and Marine Systems Lab (GEOMar), part of the Marine Management, Ecology, and Technology Group (GTMar), advances research in satellite oceanography, remote sensing, and geoprocessing applied to coastal systems. Our mission is to develop innovative monitoring and quantitative analysis approaches that support the sustainable management of coastal environments.
GEOMar's activities center on three core research areas: (I) Coastal Dynamics, (II) Coastal Resilience and Human–Environment Interactions, and (III) the Blue Economy. Within these themes, our expertise encompasses marine spatial planning, coastal zone management, integrated watershed planning, coastal adaptation, and environmental impact assessments.
By integrating geospatial technologies with interdisciplinary analytical frameworks, GEOMar explores the complex interactions between natural processes and human activities across coastal and marine environments. Our work drives evidence-based decision-making, fostering resilient coastal communities, sustainable resource use, and effective strategies for addressing emerging coastal challenges.
